Transport Lead – Other Contracts

The Transport Lead is tasked with overseeing the daily transport operations to guarantee the secure, compliant, cost-effective, and efficient movement of goods. This position involves guiding transport teams, managing the performance of the fleet, ensuring that customer service standards are met, and implementing continuous improvement strategies to boost operational efficiency, safety, and overall productivity.

1. Lead and coordinate daily transport activities to meet business and customer needs.
2. Monitor fleet utilization and optimize vehicle routing, load planning, and allocation.
3. Maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
4. Track driver progress and promptly address any unforeseen challenges or deviations.
5. Utilize transportation management systems and tracking tools for real-time shipment and vehicle monitoring.
6. Ensure timely collection and delivery of all shipments.
7. Resolve operational issues and service disruptions without delay.
8. Supervise transport controllers, planners, drivers, and support staff.
9. Conduct daily operational briefings and performance reviews.
10. Develop employee capabilities through coaching, mentoring, and training.
11. Foster a positive safety culture and promote employee engagement.
12. Ensure service levels consistently meet or exceed contractual customer expectations.
13. Oversee vehicle availability, utilization, maintenance, and compliance.
14. Monitor transport costs, including fuel, maintenance, labor, and subcontractor expenses.
15. Identify opportunities for cost savings and productivity improvements while maintaining safety and service quality.
16. Manage the performance of transport-related suppliers and contractors.
17. Ensure adherence to transport legislation, road safety regulations, and company policies.
18. Verify that drivers possess valid licenses and permits and have completed all required training.
19. Ensure loads depart within the agreed dispatch window and manage delivery documents, keys, GPS devices, fuel cards, and mobile phones.
20. Coordinate the resolution of delivery issues with customer service and relevant stakeholders.
21. Maintain accurate transport records and operational documentation.

1. Hold a Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, or possess a relevant professional qualification.
2. Possess 3-5 years of experience in transport/logistics operations, with proven responsibility for coordinating teams, resources, and daily service delivery.
3. Have 3-5 years of experience within a transport logistics, supply chain, or FMCG environment.
4. Demonstrate practical experience in dispatch planning, route and load optimization, fleet utilization, driver monitoring, transport scheduling, use of TMS/tracking tools, customer service, and operational issue resolution.
5. Have experience supporting Kenya-based transport operations and knowledge of applicable local road transport requirements.
6. Be fluent in both written and spoken communication.
