Job Description

The Underwriting Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the underwriting processes for both individual and group life insurance products. This involves evaluating risks, managing new policy applications, and handling renewals. The successful candidate will ensure all activities adhere to the company's underwriting guidelines, delegated authority limits, risk appetite, and relevant regulatory requirements, providing efficient and precise policy servicing.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Evaluate proposals and supporting documents for individual and group life insurance.
  2. Perform fundamental medical and financial risk assessments according to established underwriting guidelines.
  3. Manage various policy transactions, including new business, renewals, changes, endorsements, and reinstatements.
  4. Support the underwriting of corporate and group life schemes, preparing quotes and renewal terms.
  5. Examine medical reports, claims history, member schedules, and other pertinent risk data.
  6. Verify the correct application of policy terms, exclusions, loadings, benefits, and sums assured.
  7. Escalate risks that exceed delegated authority or the company's risk tolerance.
  8. Keep precise underwriting and policy records within the system.
  9. Follow up on any pending medical, financial, or other underwriting prerequisites.
  10. Communicate with intermediaries, corporate clients, and internal teams regarding underwriting and service issues.
  11. Adhere to company policies, regulatory standards, and underwriting protocols.
  12. Safeguard the privacy of customer, medical, and financial data.
  13. Generate standard underwriting reports and undertake additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.
  2. Progress towards professional insurance qualifications (AIIK/CII/ACII/COP) is an advantage.
  3. At least 1 year of relevant experience in life insurance, ideally in underwriting or insurance operations.
  4. Desirable exposure to individual and group/corporate life underwriting.
  5. Proficiency in using the TurnQuest System is preferred.
  6. Strong risk assessment and analytical capabilities.
  7. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  8. Good numerical and communication skills.
  9. Customer and intermediary service-oriented approach.
  10. Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  11. High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  12. Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  13. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work within delegated authority.
