Job Description

The Actuarial Analyst role at APA Life Assurance Company Ltd encompasses a broad range of actuarial functions, including financial and regulatory reporting, experience monitoring, capital modelling, pricing, product development, and providing actuarial support for budgeting and strategic planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing IFRS 17 valuation results, statutory filings, and various management reports. This position also involves collaborating with the finance department to ensure alignment and efficiency in monthly closing processes, conducting claims experience analyses, performing capital adequacy assessments, and leading the development and pricing of new products while ensuring compliance and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Produce and review IFRS 17 valuation results and associated disclosures.
  2. Prepare and review statutory filings in accordance with Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) requirements, and generate management reports for internal consumption (e.g., VNB, VIF, EV).
  3. Collaborate with the finance team to align actuals with budget and enhance the efficiency of the monthly close process.
  4. Conduct periodic claims experience analyses to inform pricing and reserving assumptions, providing recommendations for management actions.
  5. Perform capital adequacy assessments under local solvency regulations and produce Capital Adequacy reports with recommendations for management.
  6. Lead new product development and pricing initiatives, ensuring alignment with profitability, competitiveness, and regulatory standards.
  7. Provide actuarial input to support budgeting and strategic planning processes and projections.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science or a related field.
  2. A master’s degree in actuarial management is an added advantage.
  3. Proficiency in actuarial modelling tools such as Basys, RiskIntegrity, Advanced Excel, Excel VBA, Python, or R.
  4. Advanced analytical skills and strong business insight.
  5. Familiarity with Power BI or other dashboarding tools is a plus.
  6. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  7. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities with minimal supervision.
  8. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
  9. A mentorship mindset and a collaborative team player.
  10. Progress toward actuarial qualification, with a minimum of 8 papers completed.
  11. At least 5 years of actuarial experience, specifically within general insurance.
  12. Strong experience in IFRS 17 valuation and reporting.
  13. Solid understanding of insurance principles and processes.
