Job Description

The Resident Physician will be responsible for offering comprehensive clinical leadership and ensuring effective governance within the clinical medicine department. This includes delivering direct clinical care, actively engaging with the hospital's multidisciplinary healthcare team, and contributing to ongoing professional development initiatives. The role requires adherence to hospital standard operating procedures and national and international guidelines in all aspects of patient management.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct outpatient clinics for physicians according to hospital schedules, attending to both walk-in and referred patients.
  2. Provide care to all patients requiring physician review, adhering to hospital, national, and international guidelines.
  3. Perform timely ward rounds and patient reviews for internal medicine patients in line with established procedures and guidelines.
  4. Maintain accurate and clear documentation of patient history, physical examinations, investigations, and management plans.
  5. Clarify investigations, interpret results, and ensure patients and next of kin are updated.
  6. Facilitate patient admissions, obtain necessary consents, and manage discharges.
  7. Counsel patients and their families on treatment and compliance, ensuring their participation in decision-making.
  8. Execute procedures and surgical interventions within authorized privileges, maintaining high quality and patient safety.
  9. Conduct family conferences as per hospital standard operating procedures.
  10. Participate in morbidity and mortality audits and meetings.
  11. Contribute to incident reporting, root cause analysis, and Quality Improvement Plans.
  12. Engage in the continuous review and improvement of departmental standard operating procedures.
  13. Facilitate Continuous Medical Education, mentorship, and skills training for colleagues.
  14. Acquire new best practice skills and proactively facilitate their implementation.
  15. Maintain a positive work attitude and foster teamwork.
  16. Always uphold patient privacy and confidentiality.
  17. Ensure patient satisfaction through quality care, effective communication, feedback, escalation, and demonstrated follow-up and improvement.
  18. Contribute to sustainability and growth by enhancing service quality and diversity, and supporting outreach activities.
  19. Support revenue cycle management by ensuring pre-authorization, accurate billing, and proper completion of claims documentation.
  20. Maintain awareness of credit limits.
  21. Adhere to Avenue corporate governance policies.
  22. Prevent, detect, and report any fraud or criminal activity.
  23. Timely review and implement audit recommendations.
  24. Ensure adequate knowledge of all Avenue policies, procedures, and systems as outlined in the HRMIS.
  25. Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor in line with the job description.

Requirements

  1. Specialist recognition in Internal Medicine.
  2. Master's degree in Internal Medicine.
  3. Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery.
  4. Fellowship in Cardiology, Endocrinology, or Nephrology is desirable.
  5. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related position.
  6. Strong customer focus.
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  8. Results-oriented mindset.
  9. Proficient research skills.
  10. Ability to work effectively in a team.
  11. Empathetic approach to patient care.
