Internship Description

The Medical Case Intern will provide essential financial and technical support for medical assistance and insurance client service requests. This involves managing data recording, compiling costs, and generating reports. The role requires detailed analysis of processes related to AMREF Flying Doctors Medical Assistance Services, ensuring efficient financial and technical management of client services.

What You Will Do

  1. Support daily follow-up of invoices from service providers for pending and ongoing case files, uploading them to the M-files portal for payment processing.
  2. Clarify incorrectly billed invoices with service providers and conduct cost containment where necessary, reviewing and validating all invoices, especially high-value ones, to identify unnecessary or non-standard charges.
  3. Compile lists of services and costs incurred for services rendered and generate interim pro-forma cost estimates for billing and invoicing by the credit control team.
  4. Generate final cost estimates once a case is closed, particularly during time-critical periods such as month-end, in consultation with the Medical Assistance Team.
  5. Assist in receiving and resolving all queries around billing and patient refunds as requested by the assistance partners.
  6. Support the Payables team with reconciliation of service provider statements of accounts, especially for top-tier hospitals, with the assistance of the Medical Assistance Team.
  7. Answer telephone calls in the Control Room and respond professionally to clients as per AFD standards.
  8. Participate in Assistance Services departmental meetings as required.
  9. Provide administrative support as required, such as ordering office supplies.
  10. Attend to any other assigned work-related duties.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance Option) or a related business field, with at least CPA Part 1 or its equivalent.
  2. Good ICT knowledge, especially with the MS Office Suite.
  3. Knowledge on use of an accounting system will be an added advantage.
  4. Knowledge of data collection methods will be an added advantage.
  5. Knowledge in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Excellent customer service and client management skills.
  8. Ability to interpret, analyze, and present data effectively.
  9. Ability to work effectively both in a team and independently.
  10. Good planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  11. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  12. Have attention to detail and accuracy.
  13. Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to changing priorities.
