Job Description
This senior role involves providing comprehensive leadership, planning, and supervision for the entire laboratory department. The Head of Department will be responsible for ensuring strict adherence to quality standards, KMLTTB/MOH regulations, and all accreditation requirements. Key duties include overseeing the accuracy of test results, managing turnaround times, and ensuring proper maintenance of laboratory equipment. The position also entails managing, mentoring, and appraising the performance of laboratory staff, as well as developing and enforcing standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and quality assurance measures. Furthermore, the role requires managing laboratory budgets, procurement processes, and vendor relationships, alongside liaising with clinicians and hospital management to ensure effective diagnostic service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership, planning, and supervision for the laboratory department.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, KMLTTB/MOH regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Oversee the accuracy of test results, turnaround times, and equipment maintenance.
- Manage, mentor, and appraise the performance of laboratory staff.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety, and quality assurance protocols.
- Manage laboratory budgets, procurement processes, and vendor relationships.
- Liaise with clinicians and hospital management regarding diagnostic service delivery.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
- Possess a valid KMLTTB registration/license.
- Have a minimum of 5-7 years of laboratory experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 15189) and laboratory accreditation.
- Exhibit excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
