Job Description

The Assistant Underwriter is responsible for upholding underwriting standards, including managing client onboarding, issuing certificates, processing business, and maintaining accurate documentation. The role requires adherence to established underwriting guidelines and procedures to ensure high-quality underwriting and business operations. A key aspect is contributing to the department's profitability through effective quality control and efficient onboarding processes, alongside ensuring prompt and accurate documentation and delivering exceptional customer service to foster client retention.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Enforce all underwriting controls.
  2. Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
  3. Maintain clean and accurate data capture.
  4. Prepare quotations and follow up in a timely manner.
  5. Debit premiums and process policy documents within set timelines.
  6. Process and check underwriting documents.
  7. Issue and sign Motor Certificates and Yellow cards.
  8. Review and dispatch notices and documents.
  9. Ensure work is completed within established service standards and Turnaround Time (TAT).
  10. Prepare relevant reports for management and departmental use.
  11. Provide quality customer service to all clients.
  12. Safeguard security documents.
  13. Perform daily scanning and indexing of mails.
  14. Initiate motor valuations and follow up on them.
  15. Adhere strictly to the credit control policy.
  16. Follow up on renewals to ensure maximum retention of profitable accounts.
  17. Process refunds and follow up in a timely manner.
  18. Ensure 100% adherence to the authority matrix.
  19. Maintain a fully organized and up-to-date registry.
  20. Ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) guidelines.
  21. Maximize cross-sale and up-sale opportunities.
  22. Perform any other duties as required by management.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Insurance.
  2. Minimum of 1 year of experience in a relevant field.
  3. Basic underwriting skills and product knowledge.
  4. Strong customer service skills.
  5. Good communication skills.
  6. Computer literacy.
